What is Vertigo ?

Vertigo is a sensation that the environment around you is spinning in circles. It can make you feel dizzy and off-balance. Vertigo isn’t a disease. Rather, it’s a symptom of varying conditions. Vertigo causes dizziness and makes you feel like you’re spinning when you’re not. This condition can occur for many reasons, but the most common cause is a problem with your inner ear.

Types Of Vertigo

There are mainly two types of vertigo.

1. CENTRAL VERTIGO

It is the condition which usually occurs very slowly, and severity is very mild. So, the causes of central vertigo are:

A. Vascular
B. Epilepsy
C. Road traffic incidence
D. Tumor
E. Infection
F. Any other like Parkinsonism, Psychogenic, multiple sclerosis

2. PERIPHERAL VERTIGO

A. Meniere's disease
B. Vestibular disease
C. Spyhills
D. Head injury
E. Vestibulotoxic drugs

Symptoms Of Vertigo-


A.  Spinning
B.  Tilting
C.  Swaying
D. Imbalance
E. Headache
F. Sweating
G. Jerky eye movement
H. Hearing loss or ringing in ear
I. Floating sensation
J.Motion intolerance

Diagnosis Options Of Vertigo:


A. Spontaneous nystagmus
B. Fistula test
C. Romberg test
D. Gait
E. Falling
F. Test of cerebral dysfunction
G. Audiometry

Diagnosis Options Of Vertigo:                              

As per the advice of a neurologist, you can perform some self-care activities, which are very important in vertigo. These activities are:


1. Doing simple exercises helps to correct symptoms.
2. Adequate sleep with raised head with the help of pillows.
3. Avoid bending to prevent fall.
4. Avoid extending neck
5. Avoid heights if you have a phobia related to height.
